Aim

  • The aim of line balancing is  grouping the facility or task in an efficient manner to obtain an optimum balance of capacity of production system. 
  • Task are grouped so that their total time is preferably equal to little less than time available at each workstation. 
Task time 
  • It is a standard time to perform an elemental task. 
Workstation 
  • It is a specific location on assembly line where a given amount of work is performed. 
Station time 
  • It is equal to sum of processing time of operation on a particular workstation. 
Total work content 
  • It is equal to the sum of processing time of each elemental task. 
Cycle time 
  • It is the amount of time available time to any operator on assembly line .
Balance delay 
  • It is used to measure the efficiency of line .
